Hi my name Is Gerry Harvey and i live in Southampton on the South Coast of England. I have been a breeder and exhibitor of Cavies for around 18 Years. I started my Breeding with Selfs and concentrated on P.E.Goldens and Self P.E. Whites and developed very successful winning lines in both breeds. However my best acheivements were with my Goldens and was awarded English self champion exhibitor for three consectutive years in the early 1990s and one year wining all three age groups at the Bradford Championship show. Edna my ESCC Tripple Champion and 200 both had many wins at major shows. Over the last ten years i have been doing more judging than showing and therefore reduced my stock. Then in 1999 i judged a show in Sweden and a huge class of Teddies was placed before me to judge. I immediately fell in love with them and asked the local breeders if they would be prepared to start me off with a small stud. Having struggled with the issues around importing them, in 2000 12 Teddies arrived at Heathrow and i commenced my breeding. A further nine came later from Sweden. I launched my own offspring onto the show scene in 2001 and they were well received by both Judges and Exhibitors alike. I then went about getting the breed rcognised by The Rare Varieties Cavy Club. Two years later the breed acheived a Guide Standard and from this point on the Teddy Cavy has grown from strength to strength. The Teddy cavy classes at RVCC shows are now one of the largest classes in the show and the Teddies are competing well and holding their own in the challenges. There is also much competition amongst the many breeders who now possess this most endearing breed of Cavy.

I wanted a Web page so that i could promote my hobby and also provide a means of sharing my reports on judging and breeding Cavies with other enthusiasts, both in the UK and around the World. I especially want the valued friends i have made through this hobby in Sweden, Denmark, Finland,and more recently Portugal to be able to obtain information posted from time to time on whats happening here in the UK. It was my Friends in Portugal who persuaded me to embrace this technology and has only been acheived, with the kindness of Neil, my internet garu, to whom i am indeted.

Judging Engagements for 2006

My Next Judging Engagement is at the Devon County Show at which i will be Judging the Rare Varieties Cavy Club South Western area Stock Show on the 20th May 2006. Then i will fly to Tampere Finland on the 26th to Judge their show on the 27th. I am really looking forward to this event as it will be my first visit to Finland. check this space for future judging engagements.
